Orthopedics of jaws and teeth
If the jaw and teeth are not in their ''normal'' natural and optimal position, we say that they are orthodontic anomalies. Orthodontic anomalies develop hidden, so only dentists can notice them during the examination.
Orthodontics
Orthodontics deal with the preventing, diagnosing and correcting of bad set of teeth and surrounding structures. The result achieved through the patient's treatment who are in puberty and development are better than the results achieve by patients who have fully grown.
Treatment of the irregularities of jaws and teeth provides:
- correction of improper bites
- proper chewing function
- establishment of the aesthetic qualities of a face – contributes to the proper psychophysical development of personality
During the treatment, we use a fixed or mobile devices in order for the treat it quickly and completely. We can offer our patients the latest systems in orthodontic appliances that make the treatment comfortable, less painful and much shorter.
Types of Retainers
Sliding slab retainers:
- ◊the patient places and takes off the retainer from his/her mouth themselves
- ◊most often its carried at ages from 7 – 11
- ◊they are used as a preparation for a fixed or functional appliance
Functional retainers:
They are used in cases of an irregular bite, they can be sliding or fixed retainers.
- ◊Sliding ones
- the patient places and takes off the retainer during puberty. It is worn during both day and night, and is taken off only during meals, sporting activities or to maintain oral hygiene.
- ◊Functional ones
- are used in combination with fixed retainers both in adolescence and in grown up patients.
Fixed retainers
They are fixed in place with a special glue for teeth so that that patients can't remove the retainer. Therapy lasts between 9 months and 2 years and rarely are there anomalies, or the therapy lasting longer. This new generation of retainers are of smaller size, are harder to spot and make make the therapy last less. In relation to the materials of which they are made, we separate them as such:
◊metal brackets:
are used with younger patients because of their different colored rubber bands which are used to secure the device, they look jolly. Upon every checkup you may change the color of your rubber bands and the color of the retainer itself.
◊aesthetic brackets:
plastic (in the color of the wearers teeth) or ceramic (translucent) . Many patients want their retainers to be as un-noticeable as possible on their teeth.
◊auto correcting brackets:
technology pushes forward with minimum traction and forces. Many of the adventages of these devices are:
- – shorter therapy
- – a painless and comfortable therapy
- – less need for teeth removal
- – easier oral hygiene
- – shorter checkups
- – checkups every 2 – 3 months
